Misconception #1: You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.
Untrue. Dirt can be as abrasive as sandpaper. Every time you step on the carpet, you rub dirt into the carpet fibers. This causes the carpet to wear down more quickly. A dirty carpet won’t last as long as a clean one, and one vacuuming isn’t enough. To prevent carpet damage and wear and tear, it is recommended that you clean your carpets at least twice a year.
Misconception #2: The only reason to clean your carpet is to remove dirt.
Not true. The outside air contains pollen, fungus, bacteria, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and hundreds of other pollutants. When you come into your home, you carry these pollutants on your hair, skin, clothing and shoes. No wonder all these pollutants and toxins end up on your carpet.
If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema or other breathing problems, one of the main sources of your problem may be the contaminants in your carpet. This is another reason to have your carpet cleaned regularly by a local carpet cleaning company.
Misconception #3: One method of carpet cleaning is just as good as another.
Not true. Dry cleaning methods – using dry foam, dry chemicals and dry mixes – do not wash the carpet in any way. Instead, they leave a messy residue that quickly repairs the carpet. This method only cleans the carpet halfway. Elon Carpet Care uses the most effective cleaning method called hot water extraction. Hot water extraction is a method in which a high-pressure, hot water cleaning solution is applied to the carpet and then removed from the carpet with a powerful rinsing solution.
Misconception #4: You should hire the cleaning company that offers the lowest price.
Not true. We’ve seen so many problems arise from the companies with the lowest price that we advise you to NEVER hire the company that offered the cheapest price.
Two of the most common problems:
1.The price may not match the services you need. The company may be equipped to remove only dirt from your carpet, but you may also want to remove bacteria, fungus, dirt, dust mites and tobacco residue.
2.The price you see in the ads may not be the price you pay. Many homeowners have learned that the low price they see in the ads is only valid until the carpet cleaner arrives at their home. Then the customer is forced to pay much more for various extras. (Some cleaners even break the law by using illegal “bait and switch” tactics.)
Misconception #5: Any honest carpet cleaning company should be able to quote an exact price over the phone.
We’d like that to be true, but it’s not.
Honest, reputable carpet cleaning companies almost never give a price over the phone. Each situation that led to the need for carpet cleaning is individual and should be analyzed to help you more effectively and set the right expectations.
